IN CONTINUED CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S MONTH…
A young lady had enrolled for driving lessons and had a male instructor.
Making very steady progress and happy with the learning, she complemented her lessons with supervision from her mother.
During one of the sessions with her mother, she said;
“ I think that it is important for me to have been taught by a male as my primary instructor”. When her mother asked why, she answered;
“ I think that there is something to be learned from the male gender in terms of driving behaviour. Males instinctively, are calculating on the road and can fathom certain thresholds of speed and manouvre that the females can better learn from them. In the same way, the males can tap into the instinct of caution and risk management that females generally have more of ”.
I respect the views of the young lady and to me it is a point of introspection.
This was a demonstration of how gender can leverage on their differences to complement each other.
As we look at equality of opportunities and access to certain platforms, it is also important to look at how the differences in gender can be used to create capacity and achieve excellence.
Just my two cents…
