A PEEK THROUGH THE WINDOW OF THE C-SUITE Part 1 of 3

This story of insights, perspectives and thoughts going forward, begins with the realization of responsibility at the highest executive structure in the management of an organization.

Being individually and collectively responsible for actions and accountable for such actions to the Board of Governors can be a daunting proposition and has potential to permeate one’s stay as a member of the C- Suite. Saying “yes” or “no” on behalf of your overall function in the organization has certain connotations, key of which is that by a single act, you are telling the world that you can explain and defend that action to those you report to and that you are prepared to take the brunt for any adversities that may plague your decision. Your head on the chopping Board, in other words.

It is also an exhilarating yet humbling feeling to know that you are a leader and in a position to influence the behavior of your team who you hope will be inspired by your values and delivery on work. This is sometimes coupled with the anxiety associated with having to take charge and see through some awkward and even uncomfortable undertakings that are reserved for your position in the organization. The dreaded one on one engagement, where you may struggle to get through to a colleague with your correctional point and advice.

The fear of your leadership style being rejected by your team when all you mean is to do well by them and the organization as a whole. This is something you are expected to positively embrace, conquer and execute in the most emotionally and ethically intelligent way possible.

You have arrived in the C- Suite…You could be at crossroads and quickly realize that turning back is not part of your bouquet of options, and all roads lead to somewhere beyond what you were used to and became proficient at with time. Now the most time you have is for processing situations and data for decision making at a different level of responsibility. You are an Executive and the call upon you is to make the grade!

See you in part 2!
