Nurturing her cubs, the lioness is always mindful that her little bundles of joy are growing every day. She helps them around, giving them joy as she plays with them, grooms them and teaches them the skills necessary for survival by showing them the ropes.
Then it is time for the lioness to release her cubs into the wider and wild world where she is not in the picture. The cubs would have to face situations without the protection and presence of their most significant figure in all their lives.
As corporate actors, sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we have nurtured our colleagues and it is time to release them from the coaching and mentoring phase.
We must remember that respective actors respond to the nurturing process differently. Some embrace it and become the pride of the pack, others struggle with the prospect of being released, while some may be stuck in one place despite the rigorous training.
As a leader, be like the lioness and don’t hold on to coaching/ mentoring simply to extend the nurturing process because of the fear that a colleague might not be ready to face the world, when all indications are that the opportunity and time is up. Do your best and let the universe take the next phase of the journey.
As someone once said,
“The world is for the brave.”
Release the cubs!
Let’s share!
