I write this article after an experience I had a number of years ago and have been referring to almost every day of my working life since my two visits to the Republic of India.
I immediately realized why India is revered for its hospitality, culture, tradition and ethics premised on hard work. Further, I saw the power in conscious and intentional leverage, where the country has turned to positive some of the challenges associated with a large population by energizing its industrial and economic growth trajectory. I was amazed to learn that India has its own silicone valley and has made a significant mark in the world of technology and innovation in addition to making equipment and accessories more affordable due to localized labour and the reduced cost of it.
Their medical industry which embraces and enhances their age old methods in “Ayurveda”, the meticulous way food is preserved and prepared and the rich detail in the fabric and clothing excites me. It validates the notion that hard work and attention has immense rewards!
Generally, the people at all levels have an admirable ethic, premised on respect for authority and one another as human beings. This is so even in the midst of fierce competition in other endeavours such as sport, film, consumer businesses and so on.
Learning starts early and in most cases, has its genesis in the family unit, a tradition that is carried even when they migrate to other countries. Learning or appreciating the family business is in most cases the foundation upon which one would acquire and build other skills and qualifications.
I also noticed that in the three big organizations I visited to appreciate their operations and structures, employees went through the mill to the top, which I thought was a great way to assure quality and competence at all levels in the organization.
I watched a certain documentary that India is positioning itself to be the gold standard in corporate governance and one of the things it has done is to be one of the first or indeed the first country in the world to legislate corporate social responsibility in their legislative framework!
I appreciate every new and inspiring experience and look forward to more experiences from different parts of the world for common ground of interest and knowledge partnership.
Thank you to the Republic of India and its people for their contribution to the global family which I have been privileged to have a glimpse of…
