“Am I deserving of the attention I seek?”

“How would I respond if the tables were turned and it was someone seeking my attention?”

As human beings, we generally have an affinity for attention, especially when it is given to us as a benefit. It makes us feel important. Nothing wrong with that!

My thoughts gravitate towards the kind of monitoring and evaluation that goes on in our minds when we are expected to reciprocate attention. This calls for a measure of selflessness and empathy… an interrogation of purpose and values.

Hearing out those that seek our attention so that we can make an informed assessment before we make judgment seems the decent thing to do. Some will say this is easier said than done because they can see irrelevance and mediocrity way before earshot and they don’t see the need to engage.

They say patience is a virtue and over the years, I have come to appreciate that. Consideration beyond personal gratification is something one must consciously pursue as they seek to be heard and hear others.
