COLLABORATION AND COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS BY CORPORATE ACTORS IN ORGANIZATIONS

In past sharings, I have discussed the “silo” affair and how counter productive it can be in organizations. The focus of this article is rather the opposite…progressive action premised on the concept of collaboration and efforts towards that approach to working.
In my humble years of practice, one of my roles has been to coordinate the all round review of transactional instruments and agreements in readiness for relevant corporate authorizations. The process of review involves input from other departments and functions other than legal (which is my forte). Each of the team members input is just as important to the finalization of the review as any other.
Endorsement of the review by the team members is a key success factor in the process as is the reconciliation and escalation of matters of divergence. Being mindful that the goal is to achieve closure, the collaborative efforts among team members by inculcating a spirit of listening beyond hearing, being graceful, respectful, empathetic, pragmatism, pen mindedness, commitment, diligence and so on, are necessary for goal achievement.
Recognizing that resistance to change, mediocrity in the discharge of professional responsibility and ignorance towards timeliness do no1t resonate with collaboration, is a helpful start.
In this world of “VUCA” (Volatility Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) we as actors are encouraged to embrace approaches to work such as “agile” which promote collaboration, iteration, customer satisfaction, descaling of work and a nurturing culture as the modern responses to that environment.
Examining your team and how its approach to work impacts the performance of the organization is a timely intervention.
