CORPORATE GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES: CONFIDENCE IN THE PROPS

For context, I propose to take colleagues in the realm of active imagination .

In an action movie scene, the hero is in a disused elevator shaft on the eleventh floor and has to get to the ground floor using the hole to escape from the villains.

The disused passage has a number of things that the hero uses to hold on to, lean and step on as he makes his way to safety.

He quickly scans the structures, takes a deep breath and expresses confidence in the supports and props available to help him descend.

The gripping suspense and thrill experienced by viewers is the climax and they begin to resonate with the hero and admire his brevity.

As an actor in corporate governance, I have come to realise that corporate governance best practice principles, as developed and evolved from time to time, offers an environment that assures the promotion and protection of the pillars of corporate governance.

I have observed that there is need for actors to have confidence that they can rely on the the governance structures to deliver on their mandate as well as resolve certain problems.

Instruments such as a Code of Ethics which outlines the expected behavior of actors are critical to the successful implementation of organisation activities through other policies, procedures and authorizations.

Effective and efficient use of the inherent props and supports built in the corporate governance structures is usually the answer to the many vexing situations actors may find themselves in .

In most cases, there is a solution to corporate predicaments that requires tact employed by enlightened actors.

I advocate confidence that through the established structures, one would get to the ground floor and escape disruptive elements that could render the organization dysfunctional.

I look forward to hearing practical experiences of confidence in the corporate structures and lessons learned.
