Thank you all for running this race right up to the end of the track!

As we close the series, we will discuss the attribute of endurance as part of corporate self-discipline.

In an organization, there are certain things that we may have to endure to be able to achieve our goals, whether personal or organizational. By way of illustration, I am sure that we have heard about some of the most successful businesses today have started off with making losses before they broke even to later make the huge profits we see today. Through planning and resolve to keep going with the business, the various stakeholders endured the loss-making era to be where they are today.

The process of endurance entails much more that the act of waiting for the difficult period to lapse. There are most likely challenges that can be overwhelming and create doubt as to whether the decision to ride the tide was the right one. It is therefore necessary for actors to have capacity to withstand the temptation to abandon a strategy simply because of momentary discomfort.

With the strategy, the organization would most probably have built-in coping mechanisms that will complement the implementation. Examples can be ; change management required for a new direction the organization may be taking, training and development to capacitate actors for delivery and so on.

As an individual corporate actor, you are expected to exhibit endurance and be cautious not to confuse it with lethargy or surrender. Endurance in this context should be an informed sense of resolve with the confidence that one has in the path to success. The ability to envision success is cardinal otherwise it will be a mere wait for the unknown, which is not the essence of endurance.

Being able to keep going even in the face of adversity, while exercising the necessary flexibilities going with the territory, is a good way to balance the act of endurance.

High impact performance is now widely sought, with those equipped with self-discipline in the organization being poised to take the day!

Let’s share!
