I am sure that colleagues with a number of years working experience at their professions know the value of it especially in so far as recruitment or other bid selection is concerned. Sometimes it is the difference between being the preferred candidate and not making the shortlist at all!
However, today I would like to share a different angle of the discussion which drew me to the conclusion that experience can also be something forward looking.
I recently had the opportunity of firstly, being trusted to deliver on a task because I had a measure of experience and secondly, having to face the fact that whereas the task could be carried out by someone of my experience, it was not so commonly practiced and many colleagues could comfortably retire from practice without having to encounter it.
As the appointed time for my delivery drew closer, I got more anxious but also very excited at the milestone opportunity!
As I went about the task, I realized that whereas my past experience helped me with aspects of delivery, I had a memorable time living the experience that I had until then, seen as theory! I ended on a light note saying that now I could actually claim that experience and share with others who were in the position I was before the amazing opportunity which I think I seized and gave my best shot!
There are so many things we are yet to experience every day of our lives. An attitude of positive anticipation to learn and experience, even with things such as day to day personal relations and approaches to work are good ways of ensuring growth in different areas of life and work.
Let’s share!
