A candid discussion between team members brought to the fore, the need to draw a distinction if any, between micro-managing and check listing.
A micro-manager is certainly an undesirable element in any team, agreed? This is because the practice stifles creativity and growth. However, a check-lister is a team member whose responsibility is to appraise the team with the status of the project the team is working on. This is an essential element of the team… so don’t shoot the messenger!
Sometimes we mistake a check- lister for a micro-manager especially when we fail to account for our actions or inactions towards the team effort.
The short of it is that if you are going to be an effective team member, you must be amenable to things such as status reports and check-listing against targets and timelines… don’t fight them, be affable and embracing of roles.
