TAKING TIME OFF THE WORK STATION AND TIME OUT FROM WORK…is there a difference?

In my inquisition into work life balance, I have come across two different activities which I would like to discuss.
Sometimes, I would take some time “off” my desk at work and spend it at home.  That day, I would wake up much later than I would on a regular workday and check my emails and respond to those that I can before getting out of bed. My day would be characterized by deliberate relaxation activities and a few slots of “work from home”.
Other times, I would spend that day doing something completely different from work and only attend to work matters if someone initiated it for my attention or it was critical and could not wait until the day I would be on duty. My mind is focused on everything else but my regular job! To be honest, I enjoy this time more than the previous scenario because I come out of it more rejuvenated for my regular work!
I think that there is a difference between time off the desk and time out of work and it is important that we identify the difference. I am of the view that knowing the difference will assist us determine what we are actually doing with our “life” aspect of the whole balancing act.
Let’s share!
