Many a time we forget that as human beings, we all desire to be appreciated for our contributions.
One day in the professional life of Jane (illustration only) she recalled an instance where she was copied in some correspondence…whose subject was essentially her team! The communication from her team leader was succinct. It read in part, “ I wish to advise that our team is competent to deliver on this task and comprised of individuals of years of experience. We take great exception to unfounded insinuations that we are not capable of acquitting ourselves, from yourselves or anyone else. We respectfully suggest that as parties, we allow the two teams to engage in the negotiations so that we can properly establish whether we have a deal or not.”
A sense of pride and belonging filled Jane’s mind. She felt a great boost of energy to do more for her team to keep the promise made by her leader.
The business of not only having confidence in your team but also expressing it when it matters is the enhanced motivation and loyalty that is needed for teams to exceed expectations in attainment of strategic goals and objectives.
