Often we find ourselves declaring that “time is precious”, “time is money” and so on.
Indeed, time, especially in this era of VUCA, coupled with the exponential growth in technological advances, is a high value commodity. Yes, time costs!
One of the the significant characteristics about time is that it is not recoverable. You miss it and it’s gone! This therefore, calls upon those whose activities are defined through time measurement, to devise ways that assure optimal use of this commodity.
I remember, being told of my role as Company Secretary, “the timing of the discharge of your function is critical if you intend it to add value to the organisation”.
Upholding and respecting the principles that guide the management of time are therefore essential for success. Having personal discipline, organizational systems and structures in the management of time makes all the difference. It can start as simply as classifying activities into critical, urgent, important and for delegation. Further to the classification, ranking in priority must also be done for effect.
Emphasis on break and cooling off time is a component of time management, if not respected and practiced can shatter a well intended time management plan. It should be classified as one of the critical activities in the process.
The business in upholding and respecting time is a healthy work environment that enables the achievement of high levels of productivity for the organization due to its optimal distribution of priorities while maintaining the drivers of sucess in good shape.
