I would like to share something I said at and of year party for a company I was working for when we were asked to introduce ourselves and say a few words to to mark the occasion. This was part of my introduction…

“ Hello! I am the tiniest Chief Officer in this organisation …but I am not intimidated by the fact that my fellow Chief Officers are physically bigger than me!”. I heard laughter, which was good!

That is all I am going to say about that event. I would however, like to speak about registering personal presence… unapologetically. I think that we are all unique as actors and will most likely be identified by the kind of personal presence that we bring into a room. Often, I have spoken about posture, poise and so on. Presence is about more than that. It is also aura, impression and effect.

Some presence is so powerful that it is aided with minimal vocals. Some will argue that presence is a big component of charismatic personalities. Do you often wonder why some people attract a long applause just by showing up and not saying a word? In some cases, the frenzy has to be guided to stop to allow the person to vocalize.

In the corporate world, we hardly get to feel such deafening attention, but our presence is felt by the quality of what we are able to contribute or even influence. Consistency in presentation, captive in attention and esteem on which you are held by your very presence would speak volumes.

Working on one’s presence using different techniques and intention is fortitude for a firebrand!
