THE LIONESS DIARIES… On your marks, get ready, set… go!!!!

During this time of the year, I self-impose a sabbatical from writing articles unless the “spirit” leads me, so to speak! This series of articles is inspired by introspection about personality that is intentionally developed as well as that which is perceived by others, of an actor in organizations.

One of the “names” I was given on a certain organization I once worked for, was “Lion Lady.” My workmates were kind enough to disclose it to me at a farewell party hosted for me after resignation! To say I agreed with that judgement at the time would be to tell a big fib!

Now with introspection, my thoughts take me to understand the lioness (which I submit should have been used instead of lion by my nick namers!) and perhaps map some comparison with what I denied over fifteen or so years ago.

The similarities in qualities between a lioness and a human being, irrespective of gender, has been described by some proponents as follows;

Lionesses are known for their strength, courage, and nurturing nature. When I read this, I said to myself, “I want to be a lioness when I grow up!” In context, it’s not a bad nickname after all, and that got me even more curious to inquire.

At primary school during physical education, we were taught many competitive sports and particularly, how to position ourselves to win. In my view, that was one lioness skill and attribute that we learned and use much later, in our different endeavours that may be unrelated to sport. Here is how I propose to relate;

1. On your marks – like the lioness we position ourselves, with one knee on the start mark for the assignment by making sure we are in the right place and on time to propel towards achieving our goals.

2. Get set – like the lioness on the hunt, we stretch our knee with eyes on the target, mentally rehearsing how we will achieve it with strategic intent, firing up…

3. Go! – like the lioness, with stealth designed with strategy, resilience and determination, we go for it with everything there is to have, executing with precision so that our team can benefit and grow in the process.

See you next time for a page from the lioness diaries!
