In wracking my brain as I try to come up with what my new year’s resolutions are and give up in the process, one thing struck me. Something that is consistent in both my work and personal life… time and how I manage it.
I recall being asked how I manage to do this and that and still keep or at least appear to keep myself together. I will allow others to be judge of whether I manage!
I realise that time is a resource that can be seen both an opportunity and a missed opportunity. It is one of those resources which unfortunately, is not renewable. You can plan what you would like to do on a future date. However, once spent, time cannot be recovered.
In corporate governance, time is a part of almost every activity, hence the “T” in the acronym “SMART” used to ascribe quality to the way an organisation should operate.
Time is one of the the measures for financial performance, strategy implementation and day to day work by corporate actors, among others.
My encouragement to all of us is to consider time as a valuable resource which forms part of the backbone of our lives. Considering time to be of essence in life, inevitably drives us to plan and use the time in the most meaningful, efficient, satisfying and enjoyable way!
If you have one New Year’s resolution, consider treating time as being of essence!
Let’s share!
