THE POWER OF LISTENING AND PICKING UNDERTONES

I was busy… trying to beat deadlines and so many other things at the same time…one would say, typical, hey?

My colleague walked in and with extremely gentle persistence which I didn’t pick up on at first, asked if I could show up at an event … for just a few minutes. I had a myriad reasons (not excuses!) to decline the request, but because this was rather unusual of my colleague, I decided that I wouldn’t front resistance but perhaps focus on whether there were any undertones. I went to the event and discovered that my colleague was all the while trying to “save” me!

I also learned that whereas focus, resilience and all those “hard” characteristics a corporate actor is expected to have, “soft” attributes such as picking up on subtle hints, are essential. They may serve as an important connector to success.

Undertones take patience and skill to master… let’s keep at it and make the world better!
