Have you ever found yourself “missing” mail because it was not referenced correctly? The sender of the correspondence will most probably vehemently defend themselves by saying “ I sent it to you” and what would make it worse is if it was followed by “weeks ago…”. Then you rummage through your inbox.. and you find the mail under a reference unrelated to the content. But truth be told, you received it!

The inefficiency created by the sorry story told above has potential to negatively impact the organization and its business, considering that next steps were not taken.

Proper referencing should not be seen as cosmetic as its purpose is ease of identification and directing of minds to focus.
