One word for the gentleman who pulled this off…Smart!
Struggling with my professional discomfort with a colleague, I decided to voice my concern to whom it mattered, having decided that the best thing to do was to stay away from the assignment.
The response I got was, “It is unfortunate that our team member behaved that way. This is certainly not a reflection of our approach in this matter. I can assure you that I will find an amicable way of addressing your concerns. I ask that you reconsider your decision not to participate. I hope to see you tomorrow. “
I reluctantly agreed and honestly expected little or no change. At the next engagement I noticed some shift in behaviour but I was guarded and sparing.
Guess what? It got better. The gentleman managed the situation with an assuring, empathetic, respectful attitude and carrying all parties along with his good aura. Almost as though he was showing his previously renegade colleague how it is done properly and effectively. The atmosphere was great and professionalism was restored.
This gentleman used his eyes and ears… gestering inclusion and respect for diversity. He was empathetic and did the right thing, knowing very well what was right.
The result? People showed up and gave a vibe to the assignment… Back on track and thriving!
Let’s make the world better!
